STANDARD MILEAGE RATES

For 2000, the standard mileage rate is 32.5 cents per mile for all business miles. The rate for moving or medical reasons is 10 cents a mile. The rate for travel for charitable volunteer work is 14 cents a mile.

For 2001, the standard mileage rate for all business miles is increased to 34.5 cents per mile per Revenue Procedure 2000-48. The standard mileage rate for moving or medical reasons is increased to 12 cents a mile. The rate for travel for charitable volunteer work remains at 14 cents a mile.

For 2002, the standard mileage rate for the cost of operating your car, van, pickup, or panel truck is increased to 36.5 cents a mile for all business miles.

For 2003, the standard mileage rate for the use of a car in business decreased to 36 cents per mile. Company reimbursements to employees above this rate are treated as additional compensation, subject to income and payroll tax withholding.

For 2004, the standard mileage rate is 37.5 cents per mile for all business miles.

For 2005, the standard milege rate is 40.5 cents per mile for the period from January 1st, 2005 through August 31st, 2005. It then jumps to 48.5 cents per mile from September 1st, 2005 through December 31st, 2005.

For 2006, the standard mileage rate is 44.5 cents per mile.

For 2007, the standard mileage rate is 48.5 cents per mile.
